Meet AJ

The best decision my husband Mike and I ever made was deciding to move to Madison County over 7 years ago. After several visits to the area, we fell in love with Madison County because of the friendliness of the people, the gentle way of life, and, of course, the natural beauty of this area. We continue to be amazed and grateful to live here every day and are eager to participate in and give back to the wonderful community that welcomed us.

My career in public education began in 1992. Licensed in English Language Arts and French, I have taught English, French, history, and Spanish in grades 4 –12. As an administrator, I served in multiple roles, including assistant principal, principal, curriculum developer, staff developer, and special projects coordinator for a superintendent. I have also served as lead researcher for school- and district-wide data collection and analysis projects to help schools become accredited, sustain accreditation, and resolve complex budgetary and programming issues.

You may have seen me around Mars Hill. Locally, I have tutored middle school students with the Madison County Libraries. For a third year, I continue to teach the Growing Minds children’s program at the Mars Hill Farmers and Artisans Market. Lastly, for the past six years, I have taught domestic and international high school students through the MacGillis Education Group.

\My husband and I live in the Gabriel’s Creek area of Mars Hill with our two dogs. We are avid readers, gardeners, and bird-watchers.
